60 year-old Wang Wenbiao is nicknamed the "son of the desert". He has been greening his hometown, Kubuqi desert for more than 30 years. Wang and his fellow townsmen have tamed the seventh-largest desert in China, making their birthplace and home, the Kubuqi desert, a green and better place to live.
Over the past 30 years, they planted trees and brushes to stop the sand storm and fix the soil. They have built a solar farm in the desert and provided jobs for poverty stricken households in the farm. There is also an organic farm in the desert to plant vegtables and fruits with the help of drip irrgation systerm. The desert now is also a popular tourism attraction.
